The Brass Caliper Lori Embree Owner / ArtistRigby, Idahowww.thebrasscaliper.comthebrasscaliper@gmail.comSeptember 2017 Brass Packs - Places & PeopleEnclosed is your September 2017 Brass Pack based on the Places & People theme. We are fortunate enough to have guest artists Jennifer Evans and Jerusha Hawkins as guest artists contributing. You’ve got to check out their stuff, they are fantastic. This month they have sent you “The Shire’s Beard Balm.” It smells DIVINE, and almost makes me wish I had a beard. I am 50, and close to menopause, so I may get my wish. I hope you held on to the leg of September and summer like I did. I love summer. I do not want it to end. But I’m afraid fall...

It's all about the learning...

I was looking through some of my earlier pieces today. I'm sure other artists have felt this, but I looked at some of them and thought "wow, why did someone like this enough to buy it?" But then I appreciate that they DID like them enough. Maybe they saw potential. Maybe they liked the imperfection and potential. Whatever their reasons, I am grateful!    I have learned so much! I have learned what NOT to do from the many many MANY things I've done or at least tried...(soldering and chain maille, I will come for you still one day).    I have learned not to give up. That's number one on my reflections today. My newest obsession is resin. Wow...

My Obsessions

My husband once noticed something about me:  when I get into something, I don't just "kind of" get into it. I GET INTO IT. And I'm obsessed with it. And I keep obsessing and obsessing until one day....I'm done. I protested. Loudly. But he even gave me examples.  Scrapbooking. RIP Carrie Fisher #CarrieFisher #starwars

Let's face it. 2016 SUCKED. A LOT of greats died, and a lot of things almost happened.  But this one. This one went too far 2016.   Carrie Fisher passed away this morning, December 27, 2016. She was ten years older than me. I lived a life parallel to hers in many ways.  And yes, it started with Princess Leia. I was ten years old when Star Wars hit the theaters in 1977. We'd driven four hours to see the movie. I was mad that we weren't going to see "Herbie Goes Bananas" instead, but my brothers insisted on this sic-fi movie. So we waited and waited and waited for stupid seats. We got first row balcony seats, and I will...
